1.) When was the United Nations founded and what is its mission?
It was founded in 1945. The mission is guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter. 

2.) Who is credited with creating the name for the organization? How many countries were original member states of the organization?
Franklin D. Roosevelt is credited with naming the UN. There were 50 original countries.

3.) How many member nations currently participate in the UN? Provide a map that shows the current member states across the globe.

4.) Briefly describe the six main bodies of the United Nations.
The main bodies are general assembly, security council, economic and social council, trusteeship council, international court of justice, and secretariat. 
The general assembly is made up off all countries and they discuss and work on a wide array of international issues. The security council has a primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. The economic and social council brings people and issues together to promote collective action for a sustainable world. The trusteeship council supervises the administration of Trust Territories placed under the trusteeship system. The international court of justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. The secretariat is organized along departmental lines. 
5.) Create a list of specialized agencies that work through the United Nations.
UNDP, UNEP, UNFPA, UN-HABITAT, UNICEF, WFP

6.) Detail the purposes and principles of the United Nations as stated in Chapter 1, Article 1 of the United Nations Charter.
To maintain international peace and security, to develop friendly relations among nations based one the principle of respect, to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems, and to be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations in the attainment of these common ends.
