stories of migration

Historically, why do you think the United States has been a popular destination for international migrants? List some reasons. Do you think those same reasons listed are still applicable to immigration in the United States today? Explain.

religious freedom, safety, jobs available, democratic government
yes because we still have a democratic government, jobs available and you are free to practice what religion you want.

  • Describe why most people felt the need to leave the places where they were born and why they wanted to come to the United States.
Most people did not like the government they were being ruled by and wanted a place to freely practice what they wanted. Another reason was also safety.
  • Where did most of the migrants come from? (think regionally… how many migrants came from South America? How many migrants came from Europe? How many migrants came from Asia? How many migrants came from Africa?)
The majority of immigrants came from Europe
  • Complete the RESEARCH portion of the assignment located after the stories on Ravenstein’s laws of migration.
The laws that are still applied are law 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10
The laws that are no longer applied are law 2, 3, 7, 11
