Thinking Geographically

Today's first learning objective was define scale, globalization, and spatial association. Scale is the relationship between the portion of Earth being studied and Earth as a whole. Globalization is a force or process that involves the entire world and results in making something worldwide in scope.Spatial association occurs within a region if the distribution of  one feature is related to another feature.

The second learning objective is discuss the pros and cons of globalization. Some pros of globalization are it helps transfer knowledge, skills, information, technology, goods and service from country to country. It is helping the country develop and become more efficient. We have learned new and faster ways to do important things. Although we have learned lots of new things from globalization there are some cons to it. Some cons are globalization is allowing the rich countries to get richer and the poor countries to get poorer. Also, if we achieve the goal of globalization which is to create a border-less world we would have the risk of losing our cultures and all combining into one.

Globalization is a force for good as long as we keep it under control. Globalization is allowing us to learn things we didn't know and teach other places things we knew. It also is making our country more developed because we are learning new things. As long as we don't create a border-less world globalization will be a force of good.

1. Discuss the topics of push and pull factors and explain the cultural, environmental, and economic reasons for migration.  2. Describe the demographic characteristics of international migrants.  1. A push factor induces people to move out of their present location. A pull factor induces people to move into a new location. Cultural reasons could be for reasons like family status or schools. Some environmental reasons for migrating are flooding or desertification. Economic reasons for migration could be moving to a developed country that has things your home country does not.  2. Gender of migrants and age of migrants. Ravenstein theorized that males were more likely to migrate long distances. In developing countries male immigrants outnumber female immigrants. Ravenstein also theorized that most long-distance migrants were young adults seeking work. The migrants who were moving long-distance were normally individuals not families with children.
