1. Describe the origins of Christianity. Detail the 3 major branches of the faith.
Christianity was founded 2,000 years ago and was based on teachings of Jesus. Its origin is located in present-day Palestine. The 3 major branches are the Roman Catholic branch, Orthodox branch and the Protestant branch. Roman Catholics accept the teachings of the bible as well as the interpretation of those teachings by the church's hierarchy, headed by the Pope. Orthodoxy comprises the faith and practices of a collection of churches that arose in the eastern part of the Roman Empire.

 2. Describe the origins of Islam. Describe the the "Five Pillars" of the faith and detail the differences between the two major branches.
Founded 1,500 years ago and the founder was the Prophet Muhammad. The origin was Mecca which is now present-day Saudi Arabia. The "Five Pillars" is the core of Islamic belief that involves performing five acts. These acts are Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, Sawm of Ramadan, and Hajj. The 2 major branches of Islam are the Shiite and Sunni branches. The Sunni branch is the largest and is made up in Southwest Asia and North Africa. The Shiite branch is the smaller branch of the 2 and is made up in Middle Eastern countries.

3. Describe the origin of Buddhism. Detail "The Four Noble Truths". Detail the three major branches of the faith.
F    Founded 2,500 years ago by Siddhartha Guatama. The origin was India. The three major branches are Mahayana branch, Theravada branch, and Vajrayana branch. The Mahayana branch is 56% of Buddhists and is located primarily in Japan, China and Korea. The Theravada branch is 38% of Buddhists and is primarily in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The Vajrayana branch is 6% of Buddhists and is primarily in Tibet and Mongolia.


4. Describe the origin of Hinduism.
Hinduism has an unknown origin. Around 2,000 years ago key texts and rituals were composed and are still used in present-day Hinduism.

5. Describe the process of diffusion for the three major universalizing religions: Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism.
Christianity has spread through Hierarchical diffusion and contagious diffusion. Islam spread through relocation diffusion. Buddhism spread through relocation diffusion.

1. Discuss the topics of push and pull factors and explain the cultural, environmental, and economic reasons for migration.  2. Describe the demographic characteristics of international migrants.  1. A push factor induces people to move out of their present location. A pull factor induces people to move into a new location. Cultural reasons could be for reasons like family status or schools. Some environmental reasons for migrating are flooding or desertification. Economic reasons for migration could be moving to a developed country that has things your home country does not.  2. Gender of migrants and age of migrants. Ravenstein theorized that males were more likely to migrate long distances. In developing countries male immigrants outnumber female immigrants. Ravenstein also theorized that most long-distance migrants were young adults seeking work. The migrants who were moving long-distance were normally individuals not families with children.
