why do religions organize space differently

LO1: Explain why religions organize space differently
LO2: Discuss the role of sacred spaces in religion
LO3: Identify the religions impact on the cultural landscape

1. Identify and describe the different places of worship for the different religions from the readings.
Places of worship include Churches, Mosques, Synagogues, Temples, Pagodas, Houses of Worship, and Gurdwaras. Churches are the heart of Christian worship. Mosques are places for the community to gather and pray towards Makkah. Synagogues are places of study, prayer and assembly. Temples are a place for meditation and prayer. Pagodas are places for individual prayer. Houses of Worship are to signify that it is a universalizing religion. Gurdwaras are signified by the Sikh flag.

2. Discuss examples of Religious toponyms within your community.
Some religious toponyms in our community are the names of some cities in biblical reference.

3. Describe the differences in death rituals between different religions.
Hindus cremate the dead, Christians bury the dead normally around their church, and Zoroastrians take out unclean parts of the body before exposing them to animals.

4. RESEARCH: STONEHENGE
1. Sunrise on the summer solstice hits precisely between two of the stones. Can you think of a reason why the people who built Stonehenge would use this arrangement?
 2. What is the meteorological significance of the summer solstice?
How would the arrangement of the stones and the positioning of the stones with respect to the solstice carry religious meaning for ancient people?
