In 2018 China had the world’s largest population and India had the second largest population.
A. Identify the TWO types of data shown in the table that are used to calculate the rate of natural increase.
B. Describe what the total fertility rate represents.
C. Using India's rate of natural increase shown in the table, describe how to calculate the doubling time of India's population.
D. Using the data shown in the table, describe the ability of China's population to replace itself over time.
E. Explain how China's population statistics are unusual for a country with an economy that is still in the process of industrializing.

The two types of data that are used in the table to calculate the rate of natural increase are birth rate and death rate.
The total fertility rate represents the number of births in a society. The TFR is the average number of children a woman will have during her childbearing years which is about ages 15-49.
To calculate the doubling time of India's population rate you use the rule of 70. The rule of 70 says to divide 70 by the countries rate of natural increase. In this case you would divide 70 by 1.4. The doubling rate of India would be 50 years.
The ability of China's population to replace itself over time will not come to hard if they keep their TFR the same as it is now. A country with a TFR of around 2 has a future population that will stay the same over time. 2 is the replacing number whereas 1 is cutting the population in half and 4 would double the population.
China's population statistics are unusual for a country with an economy that is still in the process of industrializing. The statistics are odd because they total fertility rate number a country strives for is a little under 2 and since China is a little under 2 it is unusual. A country wants a TFR of around 2 because that allows for the population size to stay the same not increase or decrease.
